What the scale doesn’t tell you

I recently posted about how I don’t resonate with the titles ‘Certified Personal Trainer’ or ‘Behavior Change Specialist’. And I think it may be because of what you’re about to read.

I never ask my clients to ‘weigh-in’.

Fitness can fit into our lives in a positive way without feeling like it needs to revolve around a hunk of metal & a number.

Raise your hand if you’ve been personally victimized by your bathroom scale? That piece of plastic & metal has done a number on us (no pun intended) for as long as we can remember, right?

One of my goals as your mindset & movement mentor is to help you you flip the switch about what fitness truly means. And today we’re gonna talk about how that silly scale doesn’t show us diddly about our positive fitness journey.

First off, fitness looks different on every body. There is no-one-size-fits-all. I want you to try & get rid of the idea of what fitness ‘should’ look like or sound like. What years of society and diet culture may have drilled into our heads!

There is SO more to fitness than shedding body fat, increasing muscle mass, losing a ton of weight or (fill in the blank).

Once we shift our mindset & focus on what fitness can ADD to our life instead of what it takes AWAY – that’s when we can become more positive about fitness.

Our weight fluctuates each day for SO many reasons – pooping or not pooping, our period, stress, lack of sleep, a higher sodium meal, challenging (but kick ass) workouts, dehydration….

Here’s what the scale won’t tell you:

Your Relationship with Fitness: A journey of self-discovery and growth.

Endurance Level: Stepping outside your comfort zone.

Increased Strength: Both physically & mentally.

Confidence and Worth: Embracing your unique and wonderful self.

Self-Care and Showing Up For Yourself: Nurturing yourself through dedication.

Energy and Vitality: Feeling vibrant and alive.

Habits and Consistency: Building a foundation for lasting change.

Mental and Emotional Health: Finding balance and inner peace.

Overall Well-Being: That’s the ultimate goal, right?

That number on the scale is the result of the gravitational force of earth on your body. It’s the least interesting thing about you. It tells you absolutely nothing about the progress in your positive fitness journey.

Wanna know what does?

Improved Sleep: Feeling well-rested and rejuvenated.

Increased Energy and Focus: Tackling each day with enthusiasm.

Enhanced Confidence and Strength: A sense of empowerment.

Better Mood: Feeling more joy throughout the day.

Optimal Joint Function: Moving with ease and comfort.

Reduced Stress: Finding peace amidst life’s challenges.

Sense of Accomplishment: Celebrating every win.

Quality of Life: Living fully and be present each moment.

Commitment and Consistency: The backbone of lasting change.

These are ways we can measure our progress without ever stepping on a scale again.

And if you have a positive relationship with the scale – awesome! Some people use it as a positive tool, go you!

It all comes down to what’s best for *you*. Bottom line. If stepping on the scale is not good for your mental health, your motivation or mindset – I give you permission to chuck it. Because, as you can see, there are SO many more powerful and wonderful ways to track your progress and be proud of yourself.

If this resonated with you, I invite you to join me for Mindset & Movement Mondays. A weekly support group without any weigh-ins (how refreshing!).

This is the newest offering from Be PosFITive and I’m so thrilled to support you in creating positive change in your life – mind, body & soul.
